In 1934, a much more similar version of the cocktail was around, and it had the following ingredients: gin, triple sec, raspberry syrup and lemon. This cocktail is one of the most popular drinks in the world, especially for the consumption by many American and European celebrities between the 1990s and 2000s. However, it became famous in 1996, when Madonna was photographed at The Rainbow Room with a glass of Cosmopolitan in her hand. The cocktail rose to international fame in 1998 through the TV series “Sex and the City” where one of the main characters, Carrie Bradshaw, often orders a Grey Goose Cosmopolitan. Similarly, in the TV series “Queer as Folk USA” one of the main characters, Emmett, always orders a “cosmo”.
